I followed up with Frank with an email to day thanking him for the access into his life. AND He forwarded me his sons information letting me know that his son is one of the Zoo Keepers at the SD Zoo. He said he would be a good story topic as well as he is willing to give me a VIP tour of the ZOO

Today I decided that I need to revise my draft. Frank gave me so much information. I conducted an interview, filmed, photographed frank and his art for my resources. Frank also extended an invitation for me to attend other events during his show, as well as email links to the art he studied and forwarded me a story he is writing about his family tree. SO much SO little time!!!

When I was filming the process of Vicino making his collages, I also took alot of photos in his house. I took photos of his studio, his art collection, and the art work of his family that he has inherited. He also made some scrap books of his fathers, uncle, and aunts pasts. I am going to use the photos throughout the blog posting as well as in my video.

I have alot of great photos, I am just going to be frustrated when I have to decide which photos to use for which media source!!

Today I went to Frank’s studio to film the technique of creating a collage. I think it is such a unique process. We started with the idea all the way to the finished porgress. When I emailed frank today to thank him for letting follow up and film I also thanked him for being so welcoming on camera and making my job EASY!

Opening Night Reception

Edgeware Gallery is proud to announce the debut of “Color Odyssey”, an exhibit featuring 35 collages by artist Frank Leo Vicino, which will debut on May 16, 2009.

Frank Leo Vicino, a native New Yorker, studied art at the La Guardia Institute, then with Keith Lindberg in Carmel. Frank has also taught classes at the California Center for the Arts, and the Felicita Foundation. In addition, Dr. Vicino has received recognition in “Who’s Who in the West”. Dr. Vicino’s collages range from abstracts to landscapes to portraits, with the universal component being their dazzling color. Comparing his pieces to a play, Dr. Vicino comments, “On my stage, the main actors are color, texture, and composition, with color in the lead role”. The supporting role of composition also adds an intriguing unpredictable/random element in the form of upside-down letters and word fragments which show up on many of the small magazine pieces which are laboriously pieced together to create each collage, a process Dr. Vicino calls “Mosaic Collage”.

Edgeware Gallery is the newest art gallery in the Kensington district, and has the distinction of featuring both disabled and non-disabled artists. The Gallery’s resident artist is Mark Rimland, son of Gloria Rimland, and the late Dr. Bernard Rimland. Mark Rimland is an adult artist with autism, and Dr. Rimland was the founder of the adjacent Autism Research Institute, a fixture in Kensington since 1967.

Mark Rimland’s work is on permanent display, and both Mark and Frank Leo Vicino will be on hand for the opening on May 16. The wine and cheese reception begins at 5:00 and lasts until 9:00.

Proceeds from the sale of artwork from the Edgeware Gallery fund research to develop and to validate effective treatment for people on the autism spectrum.
